I thought waiting for my yarn and dyes to arrive would be the hardest part, but finally having them and not being able to use them definitely triumphs..

Today my dyes arrived in a small, neatly packaged box (yay!). I opted for the smaller containers of dye as a way to be able to test and try a larger variety of colours. Rather than having specifically set colourways I plan to concentrate on experimenting – for the first little while at least. I’ve been considering the “colourway issue” for awhile now and have come to the conclusion that it may not be a necessary feature in my own hand dyes. Yarn Candy, Sweet Fiber is going to be sold in my online Etsy shop and in store at my LYS – giving me a pretty large hand in its organization and a concentrated amount of exposure. Also, by not having set restrictions for colours and combinations I will be able to constantly create new unique and fascinating colourways, as well as revisit my favourites now and again. (I will be sure to establish dye pot numbers and produce enough depending on the yarn and common project requirements.)

Untitled - 65% Kid Mohair, 20% Wool, 15% Nylon

As I wait for my dye pots to arrive and gather up the last bits of supplies I thought I’d share some of the yarn I have been dreaming about dying for the past few weeks. Above is a beautiful blend of Kid Mohair, Wool and Nylon. It’s smooth texture shines while producing a faint, subtle halo. I have yet to name this yarn, though I am confident that one of my mohair loving friends will have one (or two) in no time!

Woolie Lace - 100% mountain merino

Woolie Single Ply - 100% mountain merino

This single ply skein of lightly spun mountain merino is one of my favourites. It is both soft and woolie and has a unique stretchy spring to it. It is cleaned, processed and spun using only citrus and vegetable based soaps and oils, leaving out the petroleum-based products most commonly associated with the processing of wool. Grown on a natural, wide open ranch in North America this yarn promises  absolute softness while keeping up with the eco-friendly mindset of today.

It comes in a heavier weight too!

Woolie 2ply - 100% mountain merino

It’s just like the single ply but with even more squish! It will be featured in some upcoming kits I plan to design and get together before fall. Yarn Candy Mittens for all!

And for the spinners & felters…

Woolie Cloud Roving

Woolie Cloud Roving! What could be better than one and two ply mountain merino? Unspun mountain merino! It even has a few extra bits of twigs and matter mixed in for extra enjoyment.

There are more photographs available on my Flickr if you’re interested.

Drool away my friends…
